“The hero and the coward both feel the same thing..."

but the hero uses his fear, projects it onto his opponent, while the coward runs. It's the same thing, fear, but it's what you do with it that matters." - Cus D'Amato

I was reminded of this quote when listening to Tim Ferriss’ interview with Susan Cain, author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking, as she was discussing how she overcame the fear of public speaking. As we’ve talked about fear earlier in the week, this seemed to be the perfect reminder that fear is an unavoidable component of the human experience. Everyone is confronted with fear, and it is how we respond that determines whether we are a coward or a hero. Heroism is not the absence of fear but rather the action taken in the overwhelming presence of fear. Fear aside, I was particularly intrigued by the topic of introversion and how to embrace the power of that personality type. In this industry, I would gather that most of the service technicians would identify more as introverts than extroverts. The job is largely spent in isolation, and the tech is left to his own thoughts, music, or the thought of others through earbuds. As an introvert, I could relate to the perspectives shared, and I am always looking for ways to maximize my opportunity to learn how to thrive in a largely extroverted society. Give this a listen and let me know which items resonate with you the most!
