This quote from Ed Mylett's interview with John C. Maxwell struck a cord with me. Questions started racing through my mind. "What are your reasons for doing the things you do? Do you have a very prompted purpose, or do you let life take you wherever it pleases?" These are the very specific questions that flooded my brain, and we must ask ourselves everyday in order to squeeze every drop out of life that we can. I was confronted with these questions about two years ago, when I realized that I was merely going through life responding rather than dictating. I had forgotten what fuels and excites me, and I had forgotten that I find joy and fulfillment in growth and creating. And I realized that I had been placed in the perfect industry to create and make an impact. The swimming pool industry is hardly what men and women envision in terms of a career, and this industry is plagued with turnover. Most take jobs in this industry as a means to bigger and brighter industries, but they overlook the vast potential this industry has to offer. As a result, some will spend 6 months to 2 years working the job but never using the work time, largely in isolation, as a way to grow and learn. I am here to change that! For those that read this and those that choose to watch and listen to this interview, I challenge you to not waste your time in the industry. I challenge you to set goals and pursue acquiring the skills necessary to achieve those goals with a sense of desperation. Assess your reasons for doing the everyday things you do, and radically adjust if those habits are not serving you well. Let's revolutionize this industry and promote an environment of growth, learning, and dream accomplishing!
