How do you respond to the word “failure?” Does it inspire you, or does it scare you? Maybe you see it as a challenge and a learning tool, a way to gain a better perspective on a project you are working on. Maybe you seek safety and avoid putting yourself in a position to fail. If you are like most people, you hate failure. It is inevitable, but what you do with that failure is where the magic happens.
For the vast majority of my life, and unbeknownst to me, I started to develop a resistance to failure. I sought comfort and convenience over pursuing opportunities that had the risk of failure. That me was guarded and closed off, and it prevented me from truly living. Within the last few years, however, a switch flipped, and I remembered the thing that makes me feel alive. The thing that provides a meaning and a purpose to the daily grind. The thing that you can discuss for hours with someone and it feel like only minutes. That thing for me is creating things. Creating ideas, creating strategies, creating businesses. My fear of failure had blinded me from pursuing my creativity, and it wasn’t until I decided to tackle that fear with a full head of steam that I found my passion.
One thing I love is podcasts. Business podcasts. Social podcasts. Fitness podcasts. Self Improvement podcasts. Even narrative podcasts! One of my favorite shows to tune into is “How I Built This” by Guy Raz. Every single episode describes visionaries who sought to solve a problem, and every single one of them experienced a perfectly smooth rise to the top... Absolutely not! Quite the opposite. Every successful person has experienced failure. They experienced gut-wrenching defeat. But they did not sulk. They got to work and iterated from that failure.
Our featured book this week is Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and this concept is the premise of the book. Risk is the name of the game. You cannot experience success without the opportunity of failure, whether it be in your finances, business ventures, or relationships. I want to challenge all of my service techs and everyone who reads this to purchase the audiobook below and use this as a tool to grow into a wealthy mindset. The incredible thing about this industry is that it is largely recession-proof! In other words, once you learn and grow, take chances to pursue things you are passionate about. Pursue that side hustle, and the worst that can happen is that you return to an industry where the need for work is very reliable. Use your time in the field to grow, to learn, and to be motivated!
